Bitdefender Threat Scanner Review
Bitdefender is a top Mac antivirus program. It is a top performer in malware detection and a host of other useful security features. However, it’s not free of shortcomings.
The default interface of the suite is simple to navigate, and it has features in three categories: Protection privacy, Utilities, and Protection. The Protection tab is mostly dedicated to the kind of features you’d expect from any antivirus software, such as real time scanning, firewall monitoring and countermeasures against ransomware. The Privacy tab provides ways to remain safe on the internet, including a secure web browser that runs websites inside the sandbox to keep malware from infecting the normal browser. The Utilities tab also includes optimization tools as well as an application that shreds files using a unique algorithm to render them unrecoverable even if they’ve been deleted.
Other features are available on premium plans, such as an effective password manager and a solution called Anti-Tracker that can prevent excessive tracking carried out by many web services. The program also has vulnerability scanners that identify outdated applications as well as weak passwords and Windows updates that haven’t yet been applied. It also has a quick custom scan that takes just five minutes to complete, which is quicker than competitors like Norton and TotalAV.
The only issue with the app is its slow install process, which can be frustrating for users who want to get started right away. The “Reveal in the Finder” feature of the app isn’t functional. This is a bizarre oversight in an antivirus app which competes with other products which can accomplish the same task with just a few simple clicks.
