However, the medical community is not the only user of these types of products. There are many over-the-counter products that can be easily used at home. The top brands for skin adhesives or “liquid bandages” include New-Skin Liquid Bandage, Nexcare Skin Crack Care, and 3M Cavilon No-Sting Barrier Film.

In-home environments, skin adhesives can be used for minor cuts, shaving cuts, and other non-life-threatening accidents. In the healthcare industry, skin adhesives are being used to close surgical incisions, trocar punctures, and lacerations that are six hours or less old.

This topical, sterile skin adhesive holds the skin closed. It comes in an applicator. When activated, it can be squeezed over the wound in one broad or two thin layers. The skin is then pressed together and held in place by the sealant. No dressings are usually needed.

Because of the flexible nature of the product, it will hold the skin securely in place until healed. With Secure Seal and other similar products, there are no stitches to be removed. The product disintegrates in around five days.
